Home Care Coronado CA
Starting a home care relationship for your elderly parents is a fantastic way to ensure they get the care and assistance they need on a regular basis, and to increase their social interaction and mental stimulation. Getting to know a new care provider, however, can be challenging and may be an awkward transition for your aging parents, particularly if they have not required care before, or have only received care from you in the past. Helping your aging loved ones get to know their new caregiver eases this transition and makes everyone more comfortable so that the care provider can offer the highest quality assistance, your parents can feel at ease, and you can have peace of mind that they are in the best hands when you are not available to help them.
A fun and casual way to help your parents get to know their new home care provider is a game of Twenty Questions but with a creative spin. Rather than just having your parents and their care provider sit down and ask each other questions, write the questions on slips of paper, put them in a large bowl or box, and have each of them select a question at different points throughout the day. Whether it is before a walk, during a meal, while bathing, or during quiet rest time in the afternoon, each of your parents and their care provider selects a question, answers it, and then lets the other answer it. This fosters conversation, encourages sharing, and helps them find common ground that is the foundation of a trusting, comfortable care relationship.
The sky is the limit when it comes to what questions you should include in your Twenty Questions bowl, and you should consider refreshing them regularly so your parents and the care provider can keep playing their game well into their relationship, but use these ideas to get you started:
- What is your middle name and why did your parents choose it?
- If you are a married woman, what was your maiden name and which name do you prefer?
- What was your first pet and its name?
- How many children do you have and what are their names?
- What was your favorite activity when you were a child?
- What did you want to be “when you grew up” when you were younger?
- What do you want to be “when you grow up” now?
- What was your major in college?
- What was your favorite subject in school?
- What was your least favorite subject in school?
- What is your favorite memory with your grandparents?
- Do you have any siblings and what are their names?
- What is the most adventurous thing you have ever done?
- What is your favorite book and why?
- Who is your favorite musician?
- What is your favorite food?
- If you could be an animal, what would it be and why?
- Where is your dream vacation destination?
- What is your favorite memory from your wedding?
- What is the scariest thing you have ever done?
